Aurora Regional Fire MuseumYou have a Facebook account. (probably) You love Facebooking. (Is that a verb?) That being the case, we'd like you to become a fan of our Facebook Page. Not only is it another method for us to deliver the local scoop you want and deserve, but you can become an active member of the Fox Valley Voice community by sharing comments, links, photos, events, and even video.

David Lewis is a fan of ours. (Thanks David!) He's also the curator at the Aurora Regional Fire Museum. He was kind enough to inform us about a delicious event coming up at the aforementioned museum:

The Aurora Regional Fire Museum will host a gingerbread FIREhouse contest, exhibition, and charity raffle for the holidays. Participants are invited to compete in one of three categories:
  • Individuals: entries made by teen-aged children (13+) and/or adults acting alone.
  • Families and Groups: a single entry that has been created by two or more individuals. (IE: a gingerbread FIREhouse made by children with adult supervision, or a FIREhouse constructed by an organization, club, or groups of adults)
  • Professionals: an entry produced by a baker, designer, architect, or any individual or group with professional baking experience.
The exhibit opens, and the entries will be judged on Saturday, November 28. Cash and prizes will be awarded for both Peoples Choice and Judges Choice in each category.

Some other select details available on the Gingerbread FIREhouse contest page:
  • All entries must depict a firefighting themed architectural structure, real or imaginary — IE: a firehouse, burning building, etc.
  • Except for the base, entries must be made from 100% edible materials.
  • The competition is open to all area residents and businesses on an “as space allows” basis.
  • All completed entry forms (along with entry fee) must be received no later than Nov. 7, 2009. Entries that are not pre-registered will not be accepted. Entry forms may be obtained and submitted online at: http://www.AuroraRegionalFireMuseum.org/gingerbread/registration.htm
  • Participants may choose to donate their entry to be raffled off on Dec. 18, 2009 with all proceeds benefiting the ARFM.
  • Entries will be judged in the following criteria: Adherence to Theme; Creativity and Originality; Level of Precision and Skill; and Overall Appearance
  • Judging will take place from 1-4pm on Saturday Nov. 28, 2009. Winners will be announced that day.
