Viva Geneva (Shopping/Fundraiser)

The stated mission of the Geneva Academic Foundation is to provide "brain-enhancing educational resources and opportunities" to the schoolchildren of District 304. To that end, the GAF granted almost $70,000 in 2008 alone, and nearly $1 million over the past 22 years.

Now the GAF is trying to help out downtown Geneva merchants as well as the kids with their Viva Geneva event taking place this Friday, August 7, from 3pm to 9pm. Over 100 businesses have agreed to stay open late in order to participate.

Here are some Quick Facts excerpted from an email sent by the City of Geneva:
  • Participants register on the Courthouse Lawn, purchase a $50 ticket and then receive their coupon book (w/ discounts and offers from participating merchants) and $25 in Geneva Chamber Gift Certificates. The remaining $25 is a GAF donation.
  • Other events include a scavenger hunt, a raffle, silent auctions (school-related items and merchant donations), and musical entertainment throughout the downtown.
  • Many merchants will offer food or drink or other attractions.
  • Dollars spent during the evening mean earning raffle tickets. Prizes are $500 reimbursement of purchases made that evening, an overnight stay in a river-view room at the Herrington Inn (good for one year) and a foursome, with golf cart, at Tanna Farms Golf Club. Winners need not be present to win.
  • First Friday - Wayne Art League exhibition at the History Center and special Open Houses at our Galleries.
